OPENING REGATTA
The Opening Regatta for club members took place on Saturday 5 May. Unfortunately, although it was a glorious afternoon, there was very little wind
Boats drifted about the start line and the race start was delayed by 20 minutes to allow all of the competitors to get to the start line. A number of the keelboats and 4 dinghies (including two toppers) eventually drifted across the start line.
Some boats made a little progress towards the SE mark but it was very slow going and even the sprint boats were struggling.
There was some confusion as to whether a shortened course had been set for the dinghies, but the buoy inadvertently deployed drifted seriously and served no practical purpose. Racing was abandoned after no boats had finished the course within the designated hour. In fact very few boats made it to the first mark and most of the dinghies drifted back over the start line and finished further back from where they started.
