“ARC Gloria”, a magnificent three-masted square-rigged sail training ship belonging to the Colombian Navy (the Armada de la Republica de Colombia, or ARC) will be moored at Ocean Terminal this weekend, arriving on Thursday 27th August and leaving for London on Sunday 30th. She is on her annual training cruise as “Colombia’s ambassador on the oceans of the world”. This is her first visit to Edinburgh in her 47 years at sea.
She is one of the biggest tall ships in the world still in service. She left her home port of Cartagena, Colombia, on 26th June and has since visited ports in Portugal, Germany and Holland. After visiting Edinburgh she will visit London and ports in Spain, Portugal and the Dominican Republic. The ship has a crew of 150 including 67 final year cadets from the Colombian Navy Academy, and one dog – “Black Pearl”, a black Labrador and the ship’s mascot.
She is due to arrive at Leith at 0800 on Thursday 27th and will be open to the public for free tours – no booking required – as follows:
Thursday 27th – 09:00-12:00 and 14:00-17:00
Friday 28th – 09:00-12:00 and 14:00 – 19:00
Saturday 29th August – family day in association with the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh – 09:00-12:00 and 14:00 – 19:00
Sunday 30th – 09:00-12:00
