Lewis balances his training commitments with his schoolwork well. He is a dedicated and hard working student at Trinity Academy in Edinburgh, and has just completed his higher exams. Lewis’ hard work has been recognised with his nomination as Depute Head Boy. He was praised at last years school prize giving where he was awarded a merit for ‘general excellence’

Besides all the training and schoolwork Lewis has many other hobbies. He enjoys playing his drums and bass guitar, and when the wind is right he loves a bit of windsurfing too!

Lewis is very ambitious to compete in as many competitions as time allows. The major events that he is eligible for is the Youth European Championshis and Youth World Championships. For now, these events are about gaining experience and developing an edge on other competitors.   He will target the World Championships along with the European Championships in his final season as a youth sailor this year. Lewis also plans to participate in the local Scottish Circuit and UK Circuit to keep his skills up to date and qualify for International events.

Further Goals

The future is bright and Lewis’s dream would be to compete in the either the Volvo Ocean Race, America’s Cup or Olympic Games to name a few. Taking one step at a time, Lewis is already planning his next transition into the Laser Standard (Men’s Olympic class) maintaining his own established high standards wherever he competes.

Sail Away With a Piece of Lewis’ Campaign

Lewis has huge ambitions and has already secured the Scottish Traveller Series for the second year in a row.

Being the only person in his class ever to win all three Scottish titles in the same year, Lewis shows he has a massive amount of potential to stamp his name at the very top of the GBR ladder. He is currently aiming to be selected for the Youth World and European Championships this year.

Lewis, along with his parents, sacrifices a large amount of time and effort to grab the biggest or smallest gains to catapult Lewis’ skills forward to be the best he can be.

With this level of commitment there is a price to pay, with yearly costs reaching a staggering £10,000 plus. To maintain Lewis’ progress and improvements he requires backing to support his campaign.

Lewis currently receives practical support from the National Governing Body and the Institute of Sport Scotland. However Lewis’ parents are, at present, covering all of the costs.

Lewis is an organised and efficient young man and is very dedicated to his sport. With this in mind, Lewis is seeking modest backing from a number of stakeholders, in preference to taking on the more considerable commercial pressures of a single personal sponsor.

For any stakeholder willing to offer a minimum investment of £500 (or the equivalent in relevant goods in kind) towards his 2016 programme, Lewis would be pleased to offer the following:-

  • Written acknowledgement of your support
  • Press announcement of stakeholder scheme
  • A signed photograph
  • Monthly email update
  • Articles for in-house/trade publications

Please do not hesitate to contact the club if you are interested in helping Lewis achieve his goals.
