Port Edgar Shorebased Courses

RYA DAYSKIPPER THEORY   – £279 

A comprehensive introduction to cruising, this course is ideal for inexperienced skippers that require the knowledge to navigate around familiar waters by day. The course will also cover a basic introduction to night cruising and safety and seamanship, so that you will have a good understanding of the International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea.

Evenings start on Monday 9th October (16 weeks)

Weekends on the following dates

13th – 14th January 2018, 27th – 28th January, 10th – 11th February
3rd – 4th March, 17th – 18th March, 31st March –  1st April

RYA COASTAL SKIPPER & YACHTMASTER THEORY   – £299

An advanced navigation course, it’s aimed at those who have already successfully completed the Day Skipper course or are of equivalent standard. The course will give students the skills required to successfully navigate a vessel on coastal or offshore passages by day and night.

The syllabus is designed to take your theory knowledge to the standard required for sitting the Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore practical exams, concentrating on advanced navigation and meteorology skills.

Weekends on the following dates
21st – 22nd October,  4th – 5th  November,  18th – 19th November and 2 December
6th – 7th January 2018,  20th – 21st January,  3rd – 4th February and 17th February
24th – 25th February,  10th – 11th March, 24th – 25th March  7th April

BC COASTAL NAVIGATION & TIDAL PLANNING

This course will cover key aspects of sea kayak theory. We will look at how to plan for tides, weather and sea conditions, including how to make the best use of available sources of information. We will also cover navigation by both map and chart, looking at a range of practical strategies. There will plenty of opportunities to get hands on with planning in both the shore-based and practical courses. By the end of the course you should have a good understanding of what you need to think about before setting out to sea
