Record numbers at Push the Boat Out 2017

The Push the Boat Out open day on 14 May was a huge success. We had over 160 people register, nearly double last year’s numbers. Many thanks to all the club members who helped to make it such a success. Thanks also to our exhibitors and guest organisations who brought a real community spirit to the event.

The visitors were able to go out sailing with club members on yachts and keelboats and take rides on RIBs. The boat trips were hugely popular, with many people going back for another go to try everything on offer.

Young children enjoyed making paper boats, tying knots in strawberry laces and colouring in.

We also had great involvement from other groups in the community. Newhaven Coastal Rowing took people out rowing on their skiff and three local Sea Cadet units took part in rowing races in the harbour.

We had radio controlled yachts from Levenhall Radio Yacht Club and a visit from the RNLI lifeboat from Queensferry.

We had a boat jumble, a pop up shop raising money for the RNLI and a local art gallery and photographer selling their work.

Club member Lewis Smith who has risen to the elite ranks of the British Youth Sailing Team was there with his Laser hosting a competition for who could hike out the longest.

The Marine Conservation Society were there telling people about their work keeping the coastline clean and campaigning for better recycling provision.

We even had live music from local jazz band “The Busking Sharks”.

Feedback from the visitors was universally positive, with people of all ages taking to the water. Many went out several times to try the various types of water activities on offer. The weather was kind to us, with glorious sunshine and a stiff breeze all day!
