Push The Boat Out 14 May

As part of the RYA’s Push The Boat Out initiative, Royal Forth Yacht Club are running a free open afternoon on Sunday 14 May. All are welcome. Come to our club house at Granton Harbour, just to the North of Edinburgh city centre. Experience the thrill of being out on the water. You will be able to have a go at sailing in yachts or dinghies, take a trip on a power boat, or just come and have a chat, enjoy the view from our club house and see what is going on. There will be something for everyone, young or old. No tickets, equipment or experience necessary, just turn up and we’ll help you find the right thing for you. Please remember that it can be cold on the water so bring warm clothing and ideally a waterproof coat.

It will be a fun day out for all the family. Take advantage of the opportunity to try the various types of boats with the support and guidance of experienced crew.  This could be a sailing dinghy, a racing yacht, a fast power boat or a larger cruising boat.

Watch demonstrations of craft on the water, see our junior members racing dinghies round the harbour and a rowing race between the local Sea Cadet units.

We will also be welcoming other organisations to take part in the event:

  • Levenhall Radio Yacht Club will be sailing their miniature sailing yachts by radio control in the harbour – have a go at sailing from dry land!
  • Newhaven Coastal Rowers will be there, giving people the chance to try rowing in their 22ft skiff.
  • The RNLI will have a pop-up shop to raise funds for the Queensferry Lifeboat, and look out for a visit from the lifeboat itself (subject to operational considerations on the day).
  • Live music from The Busking Sharks.
  • Several local sea cadet units will take part in a rowing race in the harbour.
  • Edinburgh Photo Guy will have a selection of his great prints of the local area for sale.
  • Wardie Bay Beachwatch will be telling people about the valuable work they do to keep Edinburgh’s coastline looking great and how you can get involved.

Food and refreshments will be available.

If you like what you see and want to join the club, we will be offering a 10% discount on new memberships for anyone who signs up on the day. Members will be on hand to tell you all about the activities on offer at the club, including cruising, racing and social activities.
